Mercedes C-Class - C-Class estate unmasked. Mercedes C-Class estate being tested without camouflage ahead of show debut. Our spies have already snapped various test mules and prototypes with different levels of disguise – but they didn’t expect to get this good a look at the model. With nothing to hide behind, it’s clear the Mercedes load-lugger doesn’t sacrifice function for form. It has an extended roofline and upright hatch for maximum carrying capacity, while a set of roof. rails further boosts practicality. (more…)
Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Preview – Anniversary celebrations are frequently expensive, which makes the debut of the pricey 2008 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG four decades to the year after Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher founded a small firm dedicated to the engineering, construction and testing of racing engines that much more fitting. The company, AMG, is now the performance division of Mercedes-Benz, and the new CL65 AMG coupe sits at the top of the German automaker’s range of tweaked and tuned luxury rockets.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Preview – The 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class represents the latest version of the automaker’s entry-level model. The C-Class competes directly with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Lexus IS and Cadillac CTS. Debuting in the mid 1990s, the C-Class was a response to BMW’s popular 3 Series and has sported coupe, sedan and wagon bodies.
Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG Preview- Believe it or not, some people who buy SUVs have no intention of going off-road. They don’t even care if their ride looks like it can go off-road. They just want a tall driving position combined with sure-footed all-wheel drive for inclement weather. And they definitely do not want a minivan. Mercedes-Benz builds the ML350 and ML500 just for this kind of buyer. But there is another kind of buyer who wants – and does not want – those same attributes in a vehicle, combined with athleticism and driving dynamics uncommon within the sport-utility genre. For this more demanding buyer, Mercedes-Benz has developed the new 2007 ML63 AMG.
Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series Preview – Strip a CLK63 AMG built to serve as an F1 safety car of its decals and light bar, and you’ve pretty much got the street-legal, 500-horsepower, track-ready Black Series. Pricing and volume were not announced at the car’s debut in New York, but we’d guess this thing isn’t gonna go head-to-head with a Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged. Expect a six-figure sticker and a planned build of less than 1,000 examples.
Mercedes-Benz GL450 - NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – If you’re not getting better at what you’re doing every day, you’re not going to be around for long. That’s the philosophy that underpins the development and production of the all-new 2007 Mercedes-Benz GL450, introduced to the world’s motoring press in northern California. The just-off-the-assembly-line GL-Class, this German automaker’s third all-new or upgraded entrant into the light truck segment in the past 12 months, took us 500 miles on a variety of rain-soaked roads and mud-caked trails, and after sitting in all seven seats of this new model for hours at a time, we can tell you that this late entry into the highly-competitive, luxury SUV segment is clearly an example of doing your homework for the U.S. mindset and premium standard of living – and, in this case, passing the test.
Mercedes-Benz E350 Review - First-time travelers to Europe, particularly Germany, can be taken aback by the fact that Mercedes-Benz products are: A.) Ubiquitous B.) Used as taxi cabs and police cars and C.) Come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny econo-cars to huge heavy-duty trucks. Americans are used to seeing sedans and SUVs wearing the shiny three-pointed-star badge sitting in the driveways of affluent neighborhoods, the reserved parking spaces of glass business towers, and the front line at the most expensive restaurants in town. Here in the U.S., taxis are Chevys and police cars are Fords, and the smallest Benz sold is the C230 sport sedan at a price tag of more than $30,000. As for ubiquity, well, outside of the major metropolitan areas of the United States, a Mercedes is a rare sight, indeed. (more…)
Living in LA, there’s no shortage of SL500s – or 55 AMGs for that matter – driving here and there on the busy streets and highways of this bustling city. Positively common, I tell you! But, after spending a week behind the wheel, I can see why so many in this car-crazy town, would choose this roadster as their daily driver, commonness be damned! It’s simply a joy to drive.
